Advanced beginner here,
Going through some vocabulary flash cards and I’ve come across this sentence:
かれは私{わたし}の方{ほう}を見{み}ました。
I don’t understand why ほう is necessary here. It appears to me to be superfluous. Any clarification would be appreciated.
