Questions tagged [ps1]

This tag is for questions about the original Sony PlayStation (PSX or PS1) which was released in 1994 or its 2000 redesign the PS One. Questions about later versions of the PlayStation console series should be tagged with the appropriate console tag such as [ps2], [ps3], or [psp].

The PlayStation (PSX or PS1) is a gaming console released by the Japanese media company Sony in 1994 and then redesigned as the PS One in 2000. The PlayStation was Sony's breakthrough foray into the console gaming market in the 1990's and helped significantly to popularize the distribution of games on CD-ROM as opposed to ROM chip cartridges as were being used on contemporary Nintendo and Atari consoles. It was succeeded by the PlayStation 2 (PS2) in 2000.

Use this tag ONLY for questions that are specific to the original PlayStation or PS One, such as questions about troubleshooting, configuration, or compatibility. Questions about later versions of the PlayStation console series should be tagged with the appropriate console tag such as , , or

Questions about playing games on the PlayStation should not be tagged unless the fact that they are specifically running on a PlayStation is relevant. For example, if you are encountering an apparent bug in the PlayStation version of a game but have found that the bug doesn't appear in the Nintendo 64 version of the game, adding this tag would be appropriate.
