Awal hidup

Crowe lahir pada 7 April 1964 di Strathmore Park dalam kawasan Wellington, New Zealand;[1][2] beliau anak kepada Jocelyn Yvonne (nama keluarga asal: Wemyss) dan John Alexander Crowe[3] yang bekerja dalam katering untuk kru filem, ayahnya turut menguruskan sebuah hotel.[2] Datuk sebelah ibunya Stan Wemyss terlibat dalam merakam kejadian perang semasa Perang Dunia Kedua.[4]
