In systematic literature reviews, we see the words antecedents and correlates. What is the exact difference between these two and how do we decide that a particular variable is an antecedent or a correlate of a variable which is the focus of our study

Is "antecedent" being used as a synonym for "cause"? It would be helpful if you could provide the definition of that term. A "correlate" is fairly straight-forward, presumably: that's a variable that correlates with the focus variable. – Adrian Keister Sep 17 '21 at 14:22
