In an exercise, the following sentence came out:

(complete the sentence with the propositions in the right order, and say which proposition matches the star)

母の誕生日に_____ _____ * _____贈った

A. 編んで

B. 心を

C. セーターを

D. 込めて

There's no real doubt about B and D, since 心を込める is a frozen expression. Also, I'm pretty confident the meaning is "For my mother's birthday, I put my heart into knitting a sweater for her". So my guess was C, and the sentence was:

母の誕生日に心を込めてセーターを編んで贈った。

But it comes out that the expected answer was A. The only structure that makes sense to me is:

母の誕生日に心を込めて編んでセーターを贈った。

I'm not 100% confident about the source of this exercise, so is this really the right answer?

What bugs me is the fact that the object セーター comes after its verb 編む. Does Japanese grammar actually allows that? If so, how frequent is it to say the verb before the object?

    What, they say the answer is A ? It should be a 間違い... 「心を+込めて+編ん**だ** +セーターを」 would be fine... – Chocolate Jul 08 '19 at 23:05

    I just googled it, and I wonder if there's a typo somewhere, either in the author's post, or somehow propagated from the below source into the author's source?
