Questions tagged [launchpad]

Launchpad is a feature introduced in Mac OS X Lion based on the iOS springboard. A collection of application icons and folders is accessed either by clicking an icon in the dock or by pressing a specific key on newer Macs/Apple Keyboards. Applications can be launched with a click.

Launchpad behaves much like the icon launcher (aka Springboard) found on iOS devices. Using Springboard or Launchpad, users can swipe between pages of icons, tap or click to launch the applications they represent, hold an icon to activate jiggle-edit mode, or arrange applications into folders.

What's up with "paused" applications in Launchpad?

When I activate Launch on both my Mavericks and Mountain Lion systems, a few of the application icons are (seemingly permanently) greyed out and marked "Paused" with an empty progress bar. It isn't hurting anything, but it's weird. Any idea why?

When pressing alt/option in Lion's Launchpad, only some icons get the delete X overlay to remove them. How do you delete the others? I've read that control-option-command should do this, but it simply launches the app for me.
