Antoine-Joseph "Adolphe" Sax (6 November 1814 – sekitar 7 Februari 1894)[1] adalah seorang pencipta dan pemain muzik yang berasal daripada Belgium. Beliau telah mencipta saksofon pada tahun 1846. Antara ciptaan beliau yang lain adalah saksotromba, hon saks dan tuba saks. Beliau juga boleh bermain flut dan klarinet.

Kehidupan awal

Antoine-Joseph Sax telah dilahirkan pada 6 November 1814, di Dinant, Belgium. Beliau merupakan anak lelaki kepada Charles-Joseph Sax dan isteri beliau. Meskipun nama pertama beliau adalah Antoine, beliau lebih gemar sekiranya dikenali sebagai Adolphe sejak zaman kanak-kanak.[2][3] Ibu dan bapa beliau juga merupakan pereka peralatan, yang mana telah membuat beberapa perubahan pada rekabentuk hon. Adolphe mula membuat peralatan beliau sendiri pada usia muda, telah menghantar dua buah peralatan muzik beliau iaitu flute dan clarinet dalam satu pertandingan semasa berusia 15 tahun. Selepas itu beliau mengkaji pencapaian dua alat muzik dan bunyinya di Royal Conservatory of Brussels.[3][2]
